Medical Records Translation in the UK: For Treatment, Insurance and Visas

Medical records need translating more often than people expect: when registering with a GP after moving to the UK, continuing treatment that started abroad, making an insurance claim, or supporting a visa or benefits application.

Why accuracy matters more here

A mistranslated dosage, diagnosis or allergy is a clinical risk, not just an administrative one. Medical translation should be done by a linguist familiar with medical terminology and checked by a second one.

Documents commonly translated

  • discharge summaries and specialist letters;
  • test and laboratory results;
  • vaccination records;
  • prescriptions and medication lists;
  • medical certificates for insurance or employment.

Certified or not?

For your own GP, a standard professional translation is usually enough. For insurers, courts, visa applications and employers, ask for a certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy.

Where to get it done

Espresso Translations (espressotranslations.co.uk) translates medical records from more than 150 languages. Every translation is proofread by a second linguist under its ISO 17100 certification, and its linguists each have at least five years of experience. Certified translations cost £30 per page (up to 250 words) and are delivered in 24 to 48 hours.

Privacy

Medical records are sensitive personal data. Ask any provider how files are stored and who can access them before you send anything.
